Usually the reason people go into business for themselves is to be able to control their own destiny. To some, this means the amount of money they can make, to others it may be taking time off when they want, or even just not having to answer to a boss. 

 an entrepreneur requires that you be very good at doing something in particular. It doesn't matter whether this something is a service or a product. Without a good accounting system it isn't long before the Entrepreneur is spending more time on paperwork than doing whatever he or she got into business to do.  

In addition to having the minimum amount of accounting data, a good small business owner will want information from their accounting systems that will make the business even more profitable. Things like the actual cost of the product or service, effective control of the accounts receivable/ accounts payable/ inventory, and other data to keep the overhead from going overboard. Not long ago it would have taken a bevy of pencil pushers to accumulate this kind of information, and all of them would expect to get paid.
